BG Working To Support Community Cohesion

Dr. David de Verny will lead a seminar on Racism and Eastern European Migrant Workers at Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln, on Monday 8 February 2010.

As the former Chaplain of the University of Hull and current Priest-in-Charge of the Haven Group of parishes in South East Lincolnshire, Dr. de Verny will deliver this latest installment in a series of termly events organised by BG's Centre for Education for Social Justice.

Dr Richard Woolley of the Centre for Education for Social Justice commented: "David has a wide range of experience in this area and worked as the Chaplain for migrant workers in Lincolnshire. We are delighted to welcome him to lead this seminar and anticipate that it will provide an engaging and challenging opportunity to explore some key issues. It provides another significant event in our series to support community cohesion in our region."

Dr. David de Verny will present the assembled audience with an opportunity for questions and discussion after the seminar. For tickets to this event, please contact Carol Smith by emailing carol.smith@bishopg.ac.uk.

The Centre for Education for Social Justice (C4E4SJ) at Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln was launched in October 2008. Its mission is to relate theory and practice and to provide support for groups and individuals seeking to explore and promote equality in all its forms in their own communities and wider society. Each year there will be events including a key-note lecture and seminars.

Membership of the C4E4SJ is open to all those engaging with issues relating to social justice as practitioners, writers or researchers. The aims of the Centre are:

• To promote education for social justice
• To consider issues of justice and equality in communities at all levels
• To develop an awareness of issues in communities by listening to diverse groups
• To act as a facilitator by supporting local groups in developing their own practice

Details of previous events, and membership of the Centre, are available at www.bishopg.ac.uk/socialjustice.
